this is how i do it

Thought i'd share some insight into the brain of katherine jago when it comes to creating my masterpieces of greatness. ahem.
I doodle a lot (hehe) always scribbling away. My thought is if i draw enough weird stupid nonsense,  i'll see something within it and go HAZZA!
And it generally works :) yaey
so yeah i'll scribble on a page. and then i'll be all 'oooh that has a bit o' potential right thur'.

then i'll try and make something of it...
this was the final product from that initial scribble. i drew this fish dude, then scanned it in and flipped it. I used coloured pencil to fill in the fins.. wings?.
I feel like half my drawings are just big flukes! But I'm generally more happy with my flukey work than when i try too hard at achieving something.

Ranty Pants

Warning: Mass rant and a half below

I've only just got back into the retail world and getting use to the whole 'serving customers' thang again.
I must admit 90% of customers are great grand thankful people.
But It's slowly creeping back into my memory... the stereotypical characters that will make their way into the store.
I hadn't yet come across the 'know it all fancy photographer' until today.
Lucky me.
So i can tick him off the list now
*breathes in deep*

Like.. I'm all for answering standard inquiries. But if youre gonna stand there and talk at me and yap on about how GRAND your space photos of stars and space are, and how fancy your camera is, and how you take photos of SPACE ( yes you did mention that already mate) and how you need your
prints to be perfect otherwise the tiny spots on the page wont show... then just. go. away.

-Yes we print photos.
-Yes they should be printed just as you see them on the screen colour wise and all.
-No we do not calibrate our printers to your computers.
-Yes i understand but no we do not calibrate
-Ah yes i see that... I understand why you need calibration.
..the answer is still no

and don't look at me with that annoying wincey face when i say sorry no we can't do that service. Because it does not hold magic powers. I won't suddenly give you the answer you're hoping for.
"HA YEAH WE CAN DO IT! I just wanted to see how long you lasted with me all being full of shit saying 'no', nearly got ya mate!"

YES i do understand you're talking about the colour of the print not the quality of the print. If you just let me finish what i was saying you would understand that i wasn't jumping to conclusions about the quality of your prints.
If you're so god damn special and full of fancy knowledge and know more about my printers than me, why don't you go print your own photos in a dark room in your shed. OR. go to an astronaut lab (they must exist) and get your photos printed there mate HOW ABOUT THAT HUH?
And yes i DO understand what you're saying. stop saying 'no im not saying that i'm saying this' because at the end of all your yapping.. im essentially explaining what I have just told you

THE END
times that situation by 4 and you have my monthly intake of 'sir know a lots'

I hate being a bitch but by golly sometimes i just need to VENT

Drawingz

Just a few 'digi' (digital) drawings i've done from a while back but have revisisted in recent times and so on and SUCH.

I went through a phase of colouring in some photos. I just eye dropped the colour and brushed over the picture in photoshop with ye olde paint brush tool.. so yeah not much to it but a ahh nice 'painterly' effect.
They're not really finished to perfection or anything as I clearly got bored and moved on to other things.

Treeeees! I like drawing trees and plants, it's FUN
So I do enjoy doing some arty shite in photoshop but i'm not that patient with it and if something isn't working for me i'll chuck a hissy fit and leave it
There's a pointless fact about me and my relationship with Photoshop.
I'd much rather draw something then scan it in and have a play

So I've recently stolen a few photographs from my boss at work. She's taken all these epic pictures of New Zealand's country side and I have taken a particular interest in the awesome houses she has 'captured'.
So I've decided to do some very simple line drawings of them juust because i feel like it.
I'm beginning to become a little obsessed with cute, old, rundown houses.
How awesome is this one?
This is in Dunsborough. Is has charm. I enjoy the placement of it's windows.
Anyway this is the first little drawing I have done. Pretty simple nothing SPECTACULAR.
I'm hoping each drawing will become more and more SPECTACULAR!

annnd this is the photo I took it from.

Typo-graffy

Just thought I'd share some typography stufff I've done.
Typography is cooool beans. I must admit it takes me a while to be happy with anything I do type wise but I guess practice makes perfect ayyeee?? yeaaah.
This is a ahh publication I produced under the ISTD ( The International Society of Typographic Designers people... ) brief we got given whilst learnding at tafe.
We had to choose one out of four..of five.. briefs, and then yeah convey all ideas and issues using
STRONG TYPOGRAPHIC DESIGN!<--(bad type design)
Twas a good assignment.

This is an album cover I designed for a group my brother played in called The Grid
Great music if you like something a little different and jazzy and STUFF
Check them out yeah!

Introducing Cedric

Introducing the one and only,
Cedric Harvey Jago
The most awesome budgie you'll ever meet. Ever. In your life.
He's not my budgie, he's my sisters. So I see myself as the cool Aunt that gets to spoil him and let him get away with cheeky things.

He thinks he's a human and wonders why he has to spend most of his day in a cage while the rest of 'his kind' walk free.
He'll just sit on your foot while you watch the tv, or just sit on your shoulder for hours just talking his beak off 'hellooocedric, whos a prettyboi scratch? want to scratch?' and so on. He likes to follow people around the house and as soon as you're out of his sight he'll squawk his pants off until you show face again. Talk about separation anxiety issues..sheeesh.
Very needy at times but all in all he's a little cutey pants!

Oh and man. He is a good looking boid. I'm sure he'd have all the lady birdies swooning over him. He's never been introduced to another bird, I have no idea what would happen if he did. I'm thinking ced's would be all 'hey whattup G wanna meet my peeps' and the other bird would just stare blankly at him whilst dropping a poo.

So yeah this will not be the last time you hear of Cedric Harvey Jago.

I want to draw more houses

So I have finally purchased myself a printer/scanner. FINALLY. This was the one thing I lacked that would continuously link me back to my parentals house.
In the last 3 months of tafe I swear I made at least 3 to 4 trips a week.
I am now officially a fully grown-up adult lady woman (children at work call me a lady. Makes me feel all old and mature)

My list of grown up things
-Car
-Moving out of home
-Paying bills
-Buying and installing light bulbs
-Having your own vacuum cleaner
-Owning a printer scanner

So I went all GUN HO with installing the printer. Got the ink cartridges calibrated and all that jazz. Then went to grab the CD to install the software.. yep.. just got toooo grab.. that ahh ceee deee..
I lost the CD.
From opening the box and placing everything in a neat little pile.. to turning on the printer, this CD-ROM has decided to dissolve into the atmosphere and my acute short term memory loss does not help the situation.
It's okay, it'll pop up. I'll stop whinging. HELLAH wanted to scan shit tonight though. Nothing like a good scan o' paper to get you through the evenings.. yep

That's enough dribble for now. Here's some houses wooo!

The Update

So yeah!

Came back from down south today. Depressing. Coming home... back to reality (oh there goes gravity)
But what can ye dooo. Not much.
And yes that insect is still living outside my window annoying the shit out of me. Drastic action will be taken soon enough.

In other news, currently obsessed with ze musical group Best Coast. I am breathing in their music every day and my sister keeps getting pissed off because im constantly demanding that she listens to them.
She doesn't have the time apparently. Well thats just bull dust I say.
So yeah pretty sure I'll be creating some "best Coast Inspired" drawwwingss and stuff soon. I haven't done a lot of drawing/design since finishing tafe. I've been a little slack and blamed the festive season.
Well it's the new year! No excuses anymore!

So I'm hoping to one day.. some day...to fully illustrate and write my own children's book .. we shall see how i go.

can't sleep. clown will eat me

The past two nights there has been theee most annoying noise coming from somewhere in my room. At first I thought my fan had an electrical fault and was making high pitched squeals of death at me.
But now after many 'fan on fan off' tests, I have realised that its just a really really reaaally annoying nocturnal insect living in a pile of shrubs outside my window.

It only starts its high frequency mating call (that's what I'm lead to believe it is.. no one is answering this dudes calls for love. at all.) at around 11pm at night. MY BED TIME.
I'm now almost waiting for its two minute interval squeals to start.. then I smash the wall like it's some sort of roudy neighbour who'll get the idea to SHUTUP. It only makes it worse. I smacked on the wall and I swear it retaliated by going twice as longer in this particular interval because I threw off his groove or some shit.
Anyway i'm going down south the day after tomorrow, so let's hope he's found love before I get back otherwise I actually may cry myself to sleep.

end of rant.

You're the voice try and understand it!

I started playing connect the lines one day. It turned into an obsession. Then I drew this little guy and thought to myself.. this guy needs a voice, and these lines can be his voice.
